The United States of America has lots of different cultures mixed within the country. Giving us a huge variety of different and delicious foods.
Growing up in Excelsior Springs, MO in the United States of America has been exciting. The small town has allowed me to meet so many people and get to know them. It is also close to Kansas City so I have had the chance to have some of the best BBQ.
I have been to to these states; Kansas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida, and I have tasted food all around our fascinating country. |
My favorite food is a steak with a loaded sweet potato.Nutrition Facts: There are 340 calories in an 8oz sirloin steak and 309 calories in the loaded sweet potato. The steak has 8 grams of fat and the sweet potato has 8 grams of fat as well. Based off a 2,000 calories a day diet, this meal is not the healthiest option,but it's not the worst. This takes up 649 calories of you day, which isn't bad considering the portions you get.

On February 6th, I stopped by The Blue Onion on the corner of 6th and Onion streets for breakfast. It was around 8:30am, and I had hoped I'd missed the crowd. I wasn't expecting a line, but I definitely got one. The line at the counter was about five people deep when I walked up and another five people were waiting to pay at the register, and there was only one person working in each spot. I had heard the place could get busy, but this was ridiculous… Finally, I ordered a plate of biscuits and gravy, or as they call it the Smothered Biscuits.
When I sat down to eat the biscuits and gravy, I had a feeling the biscuits would be dry, it’s what I heard from other friends who ate there. But I saw it was moist and flavorful. I'm really glad the biscuits were buttery and the gravy was creamy- that’s just how I like it! The extra pile of hot hash browns on the side were amazing- that alone earned some respect. My plate and why we use it.My plate is a guideline Americans use when eating a healthy diet. The portions on the plate show us what we should be eating daily for our meals. It gives us the best amount of each kind of food; vegetables, proteins, grains, dairy, and fruits.

Overall, my experience with the Blue Onions Smothered Biscuits was positive. It was creamy and delicious. Within minutes of eating my meal, I was glad I tried it. The sauce though could have been a little more seasoned, or maybe it was a cooker problem. I probably won't eat the biscuits and gravy again since it wasn’t my favorite thing- but it was good and I will try other things on the menu.
